BALESTRATE
It is the last town on Palermo’s west coast. It has an extremely long beach (public beach/facilities available). The old town has a typical grid plan, with a lovely central square where you can enjoy a drink in one of the several cafés. Our ownerships are also a good starting point to discover the beauties of the surrounding area: it is just a few kilometres away from many important nearby towns such as Scopello, San Vito Lo Capo, Erice, Trapani and Segesta. away, Palermo is 40 Km away, Catania is 240 Km away. Balestrate is a small bathing locality with about 7.000 inhabitants, located in the Gulf of Castellammare along the northern coast of Sicily, exactly 40 Km on the western side of Palermo. The existing seaside village has developed around the ancient tunny-fishing grounds and along the sea-front promenade with its small shops, bars and typical restaurants where you can enjoy Sicilian gastronomic specialities and excellent fish dishes. The shore is characterized by beautiful sandy beaches lapped by crystalline waters while the hinterland by some wine-growing and grape-producing farms with their typical bagli (internal courts). Worth visiting are: the Chiesa Madre (Mother Church) and the Castle of Calatubo, interesting Byzantine stronghold placed on the top of a rock overlooking the village.
Magnificent, kilometre-long beaches stretch west and east along the coast from the village. Behind the beach to the west of the village, there is a wood with Eucalyptus and Tamarisk. Balestrate offers everything you might need. Restaurants, bars, pubs, discotheque, supermarkets, bank machine, internet cafe. Monday is market day. In Balestrate you will find everything you need for scuba diving, angling and for motor boot sport. It also has a yacht marina.
To few minutes from the airports of Palermo and Trapani, situated in the Gulf of Castellammare, one of the most beautiful places in Sicily.
